Eating out, with the exception of restaurants at the very top end, is much better than in England. It is also cheap. The most I have ever paid, in the best restaurant in the area, eating the most expensive dishes, was £45 for four adults and two children.
Normally you should expect to pay about £3–£5 a head and you can eat out for less.
The traditional dish of Bahia is moqueca, a mildly spiced dish made with coconut milk, palm oil, coriander, peppers and onions: you can eat prawn, crab, mixed seafood and fish moqueca and if you’re vegetarian, ask for egg moqueca which is delicious.
One dish on the menu is enough for two of you.
